Sandra Bogan Granard Country Market

Hi, my name is Sandra Bogan and I am addicted to crochet. I just love experimenting with yarn or thread to create unique and interesting items. I design and create everything from handbags to jewellery. I am also inspired by traditional crochet and delight in using vintage patterns to create items that are still as charming today as they were when the pattern was first published.

I grew up on a farm in Longford and was surrounded by a generation that understood self sufficiency. I was taught by my grandmother to sew on a Singer Foot Machine and it was a real stretch to reach that pedal back then. My mother taught me how to do embroidery properly - no knots allowed and the back must be as neat as the front. I learned how to crochet from my teacher in National School and that was to become my obsession. Looking back I realise how lucky I was to learn all these skills and am very thankful for the amount of pleasure they have brought me.

Since last April I have been a member of Granard County Market and it has opened up a whole new world for me. The encouragement I have received from the members has been terrific and it is an excellent way to meet local people and promote your work. I am a registered member of the Craft Council of Ireland and if you would like to view some more of my work you will find my page “Myrtle Designs” on facebook.
